Our huge thanks to photo journalist Jill Mead (insta @speediemeadie66) from the Guardian who happened upon us at the sing song on Friday who has given us permission to repost her fantastic images on this site. Jill has captured the essence of our wonderful deeply rooted community, here in Bonnington Square.
Please note that social distancing was observed – even if it might not look like from some of the shots.
This Saturday, 15 June, Junction Jazz are returning to
Bonnington Square, Vauxhall, SW8 1TQ.
The Square boasts 2 wonderful community gardens and the unique Italo Deli where refreshments can be obtained during the performance.
We are delighted to be supporting the Community Garden project.
From Apr-May, in the woodlands of Sussex & Kent, and live from the concert hall, award-winning folk artist, Sam Lee invites audiences to experience a unique collaboration between musician and bird, and a rare opportunity to hear one of the UK’s rarest birds sing its courtship song from its summer home.
In Lewes, Sussex, and Green Farm Kent, small groups will take a magical walk under the night sky, after a fireside supper & storytelling, guided into the nightingales’ habitat by wilderness experts, where world-renowned musicians will collaborate live with the birds; dates & artists
Audiences further afield will also able to share this experience, as SWN: LIVE  comes to venues across the UK, including The Southbank Centre, hosted by Sam Lee & featuring special guests Kadialy Kouyate & Donal Kearney. Birdsong will be transmitted live into venues from the woods, whilst Sam & special guest artists collaborate live on stage, providing an increasingly rare opportunity to hear the birds song. (Supported by Arts Council England)
Join 6 walks to help you discover Secret Lambeth. We will be running guided walks based around the routes in our new booklet. If you would like join us then please register your interest by emailing us at [email protected] Mutiny, Executions and Hollywood walk starts at Kennington Park, formerly Kennington Common. This was once the starting point of many march and site of key meeting in 1848 of Chartists (the working-class electoral reform movement).
HUGE thanks to all the Garden HEROES who helped us – this is a snippet of our 10 Ton gravel manoeuvre – thanks also to Travis Perkins for lending us the compactor and wheelbarrows.
We just signed the petition “Let the community decide Vauxhall’s future” and wanted to ask if you could add your name too.
This campaign means a lot to me and the more support we can get behind it, the better chance we have of succeeding. You can read more and sign the petition here:

Why is this important? Transport for London (TfL), with Lambeth Council, has a plan to make the Vauxhall one-way gyratory into a two-way system. This will replace the well-used, safe and much-loved Vauxhall bus station with dispersed, unprot

In case you didn’t make (to the open evening where all the plans and and planners were present) it there are a couple of things worth writing to TfL about esp if any of you drive or take taxis. (I suggest you look at your map to make sense of these points)
The planners at the meeting agreed with me on both these points and made a note of them but unless sufficient people make a noise they might for convenience just forget about these issues.
You can respond to TfL’s consultation on the redevelopment of the bus station and roads around it here (the consultation is set to end 17 January) https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/roads/vauxhall-cross
